I've been bumping into different videos and pictures of people posting art labeled "ICAD" for some time now. When I investigated a bit further, I found out it's an daily art project that has been running for about five years. Simplest of concepts: create a daily piece of art on an index card each day for the months of June and July. Simple enough that I forgot all about it until each time I bump into another card online.
As it happens, this year, I happen to find the Index page for 2016 through Pinterest on May 31st and being in an artsy dry spell, thought this would be the perfect thing to jump start me back in the studio and get the flow going.
Three days in and it's absolutely charging me up. I assumed I'd pick away at the card each day based on the theme and prompt and that would be that. But starting into the first card, I found myself working forward, prepping cards for themes and starting to open boxes and bags of supplies all over the studio, rediscovering lots of forgotten ephemera, bits, and bobs that will work perfectly for the project. And I'm also rediscovering all the different mediums and supplies I have at my disposal. This is way more fun then I imagined and I'm looking forward to getting through the entire sixty-one days.
I'm sure I'm not the first to do it but in thinking of what to do with the cards when I completed them, I thought they reminded me of postcards so I set out to start mailing them out each day to a friend. Don't know what the hell he's going to do with them but it checks off the postage art box for me, too, so I hope he enjoys them.
